How to calculate TBW and DWPD of SSDs?

MTBF, MTTR, MTTF, MTTA - metrics used in tracking and improving the incident management process.
MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures)
Refers to the average time without failure of the drive, or more precisely, it is the average time between failures of the product that can be repaired. This is an estimate and depends on the operating conditions of the drive. It does not affect the warranty, just like TBW. The higher the MTBF value, the more reliable the product is rated by the Manufacturer, which of course affects the price.
- How to calculate MTBF?
- MTBF = operating time (in hours) / number of failures
MTTR (Mean Time to Repair)
Refers to the average time from failure to recovery. MTTR includes periods of MTBF.
- How to calculate MTTR?
- MTTR = Sum of troubleshooting times (in hours or minutes) / number of events (repairs)
MTTF (Mean Time to Failure)
Indicates the average time to failure, or more precisely, the average time between failures that cannot be repaired. This indicator allows you to determine the lifespan of the product (disk), as well as provide information on the expected service life and maintenance intervals.
- How to calculate MTTF
- MTTF = sum of operating time of all drives (in hours or minutes) / number of drives
MTTA (Mean Time to Acknowledge)
Indicates the average confirmation time, this is the time that elapses from the generation of an alert to the start of work on the notification. This indicator is important in determining the speed of service and the efficiency of event handling.
- How to calculate?
- MTTA = sum of time between alert generation and confirmation / number of events
Performance metrics for HDD and SSD drives
- Enterprise-class HDDs have MTBF and MTTF ratings of 2,000,000 to 2,500,000 hours.
- Enterprise-class SSDs have MTBF and MTTF ratings of 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 hours.
