Firmware Update LSI 2108 MegaCli

| Support

Updating the firmware of a controller based on the LSI2108 chipset, such as the AOC-SAS2LP-H8IR, can be done with the MegaCli utility located on a bootable USB key with DOS (FreeDOS) or using the graphical MegaRAID Storage Management Utility. The current firmware version is displayed during controller initialization.

Where does the Firmware come from?
Fimrware, can be found on Supermicro's ftp server.

Procedure:

  1. Download the latest archive:
    https://www.supermicro.com/wftp/driver/SAS/LSI/2108/
  2. Extract the files to a bootable USB key containing FreeDOS.
  3. Write down the controller's SAS address (16 bits) located on the sticker on the controller, e.g. 500605B0xxxxxxxxxx, which will be required during the upgrade.
  4. Boot the system from the USB key and run the script: flash.bat specifying SAS ADDRESS as a parameter or execute the following command:
    MegaCli.exe -adpfwflash -f smc2108.rom -a0
  5. After the update is complete, restart the computer and check the current firmware version (Revision column)

Properly performed firmware update is safe and does not cause loss of configuration.
