As of November 2019, Supermicro has implemented a new BMC chip security feature for X10, X11, H11, H12 and all future generations of Supermicro products. Supermicro no longer uses the default password "ADMIN" for new motherboards and servers. All motherboards and servers come with a unique pre-programmed password for the administrator on each BMC. Supermicro places the password in multiple locations, so locating them should not be difficult:
- On the box, on the server label "Unique BMC Password"
- On the motherboard and on the cover cap from the CPU (IPMI mac address / PWD)
- On the service tag on the front of the server (IPMI mac address / PWD)
- On the back of the server (IPMI mac address / PWD).
Supermicro provides scripts in Python to reset the password to the earlier "ADMIN," which can be downloaded:
