IPMI Not Detecting Power Supply? Solutions not only for Supermicro H13SSL-N / H13SSL-NT
| F.A.Q. • SupportIPMI Not Detecting Power Supply? Solutions for Supermicro MBD-H13SSL-N / MBD-H13SSL-NT
If your Supermicro MBD-H13SSL-N / MBD-H13SSL-NT motherboard’s IPMI is not detecting the power supply, try the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Check Power Supply Compatibility
- Ensure you are using a power supply that supports PMBus (Power Management Bus).
- Some power supplies do not support monitoring via IPMI.
2. Verify Connections & Cabling
- Make sure the power supply is properly seated in the motherboard connector.
- If you have a redundant power supply, check if both units are connected and functioning correctly.
3. Test with a Different Power Supply
- If you have access to a compatible power supply, connect it and check if IPMI detects it.
4. Check IPMI via System Tools
If you prefer using ipmicfg instead of ipmitool, use the following commands:
a) Check Power Supply Status
Run the command: ipmicfg -sdr
Look for entries related to PSU or Power Supply.
b) Reset BMC (IPMI Controller)
Run the command: ipmicfg -r
This performs a cold reset of IPMI.
c) View System Event Logs
Run the command: ipmicfg -sel list
Check logs for any errors related to the power supply.
d) Check Power Settings
Run the command: ipmicfg -power
This displays the current power status.
e) Verify BMC Firmware Version
Run the command: ipmicfg -ver
If you have an older version, consider updating the firmware.
5. Update IPMI Firmware
- Ensure you are running the latest BMC/IPMI firmware.
- Download updates from the official Supermicro website:

Special Note for Supermicro MBD-H13SSL-NT Users
If you are using firmware version 01.03.03 and none of the above solutions worked, try upgrading to 01.03.08:
- BMC_H13AST2600-ROT-1401MS_20241224_01.03.08_STDsp.bin
- As of January 30, 2025, this is a Release Candidate (RC) firmware version.
