BIOS updates can be performed in several ways, one of which is using the IPMI WebGUI interface (SFT-OOB-LIC or SFT-DCMS-Single license is required).
Where to get the BIOS?
The latest BIOS can be found on the Supermicro website or obtained from your distributor.
BIOS Update via Web-GUI [Supermicro]
Follow these steps:
Step 1: Download the BIOS File
- Go to the Supermicro website.
- Download and extract the latest BIOS file for your motherboard.
Step 2: Access the IPMI Web-GUI
- Open a browser and enter the IPMI IP address.
- Log in (ADMIN/unique password).
Step 3: Go to the BIOS Update
- Go to the Maintenance tab.
- Select Firmware Management, then choose BIOS.
Preserve options are available if you have custom BIOS settings, specific keys, or other configurations you want to keep after the BIOS update:
- Preserve SMBIOS: Used to preserve DMI information, such as a programmed serial number.
- Preserve OA (OEM Activations): Allows you to retain OEM preloaded OS keys.
- Preserve BIOS Setup Configuration: Preserves all BIOS settings.
- Preserve BIOS Setup Password: Preserves the BIOS Admin password.
- Preserve BIOS Secure Key: Preserves the preconfigured or injected Secure Boot key.
- Preserve BIOS Boot Options Configuration: Retains custom boot settings and boot order.
Step 4: Upload the BIOS File
- Click Choose File and select the downloaded BIOS file (usually
.bin
or.rom
). - Click Start or Upload.
Step 5: Start the BIOS Update
- Confirm that you want to begin the update.
- Wait for the update to complete and for the system to restart automatically.
Step 6: Verify the Update
- Enter the BIOS after the reboot and check the version.
